Ossama Helmy, AKA OzOz, is an Egyptian artist who use origami art in story telling and artistic performance. After studying Anthropology in Alexandria University, he cofounded “Ressala” band in which he sang from 2000-2004. In 2003, he participated in a storytelling workshop with Vanya Exerjian, held at Bibliotheca Alexandrina. Since then, he has worked independently on promoting the art of paper folding “Origami” in Egypt and the Arab World. In 2011, he founded the Arab Origami Center. In this context, he offers workshops for children and adults, exhibitions, lectures and organize an annual festival for Origami.
As an artist, OzOz is interested in personal storytelling as well as making storytelling performances using origami. He took part more than once in “Hekayetna” (Our Story) performance in Alexandria, participated in the Egyptian project of the Theatre of the Oppressed, and performed Tales of Travel, Revolution & Paper, which were all directed by Nora Amin. OzOz joined many storytelling workshops and performances -using origami- that took place in Egypt, Tunisia, Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, India, England and Algeria.
