How do we tell stories to those who cannot (yet) read words ?
How can we read an image ?
How can we write the world, through image ?
The symposium invites participants to question contemporary narrative images in Arabic and Mediterranean worlds. Narrative images are understood as a still image that represents the world in the form of a children book, artwork, popular painting on any medium, or in media, political, digital, advertising spaces.
The conference is intended for researchers but also book professionals and writers/illustrator from the Mediterranean area.
Three core themes will be discussed :
- Youth litterature as a reflection and a project for Mediterranean societies
- Visual codes and languages in children literature.
- Narration and political and societal commitments through their images.
A symposium offered by la Bibliothèque départementale (BDP13) and IREMAM laboratory (MMSH), organised by Mathilde Chèvre and ARVIMM, with the support of the University of Aix-Marseille, COBIAC, MEDiaKitab, and Mediterranean memories.
